NWACC reports record number of concurrent high school students

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — NorthWest Arkansas Community College announced an unofficial preliminary count of enrolled students on Jan. 30, which included the highest number of concurrent students taking college classes while in high school for NWACC, according to a media release.

The unofficial count showed academic-credit students enrolled to be 7,709 students on the 11th day of classes for the spring semester. Compared to the 7,418 academic-credit students on the 11th day of classes for the 2023 spring semester, NWACC saw a 3.9% increase in enrollment.

The media release also said that of the current academic-credit students, 2,540 are concurrent students taking college courses while in high school. This marks a record number for NWACC’s high school concurrent program.

“Our record number in concurrent enrollment demonstrates how NWACC is taking the lead in providing high school students with college-level courses, so they can get a head start on their higher education while saving on tuition costs,” said NWACC vice president of Student Affairs Dr. Justin White.

NWACC also serves accelerated skills training students through workforce development, job training, adult education and other programs. The total number of academic-credit and accelerated skills training students is currently at 9,155.

The media release said that these figures are preliminary, unofficial numbers.

“The total enrollment figure typically may include some numbers that 11th-day enrollment numbers provided to the Arkansas Department of Higher Education do not, such as students who may be auditing a class or who are enrolled in classes that begin after the tradition 16-week term kicks off,” said the release.
