NWS predicts thunderstorms for Groundhog Day

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Though Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring this morning, the National Weather Service has predicted thunderstorms over Texas beginning in the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service of Abilene and San Angelo, Texas, the spring-like weather conditions San Angelo has been seeing as of late will only intensify with the development of thunderstorms. These storms are expected to begin forming in the afternoon, with more “robust action” expected to occur between 6 p.m. and midnight.

The National Weather Service also predicts wind and hail to accompany the storms, with damaging winds clocking in at 60 mph billowing through the Concho Valley and hail up to 2 inches pelting parts of West Texas.

A low tornado threat is also present with the formation of the storms, though the National Weather Service describes it as being a “very low” threat.
