NWS: Snow squalls possible Friday evening in Poconos
Snow squalls are a possibility this evening in the Poconos, according to the National Weather Service and AccuWeather.
“The heavier snow showers and squalls will push east across a large portion of Pennsylvania Friday into early Friday night, as well as neighboring areas in eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia, western Maryland, southern New York, northwestern New Jersey and Connecticut,” AccuWeather said.
“The Pennsylvania Turnpike, as well as interstates 79, 80, 81, 90 and 95 are among the highways that will be impacted by this wintry threat,” AccuWeather added.
Squalls feature quick periods of heavy snow, causing dangerous conditions on the road. When encountering squalls, drivers should slow down and find a safe place to stop.
The National Weather Service in Binghamton, New York, which covers the northern Poconos, tweeted Friday morning that it “cannot rule out snow squalls this afternoon-evening.”
The NWS in Mount Holly, New Jersey, said that “Today will be another brisk and chilly day with increasing chances for rain and snow showers by late day. It's possible we may also see some locally heavier snow squalls over parts of NE PA into NW NJ.”
Wintry weather expected today and this weekend. Scattered showers across NEPA and Catskills today; cannot rule out snow squalls this afternoon-evening. A quiet Saturday will be followed by another round of heavy lake-effect snow and snow squalls in CNY on Sunday. #nywx #pawx pic.twitter.com/DmqMPrjhU8
