NWS Wakefield now accepting applications for summer volunteer program

WAKEFIELD, Va. (WAVY) – Do you know a college student big into meteorology who is looking for a cool opportunity this summer?

The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Virginia is currently accepting applications for its Summer Student Volunteer Program. 

It is open to students enrolled at a college/university, pursuing a degree in meteorology or a related science.

This is an unpaid position, but the opportunity is priceless. Students will get to work with a NWS field office and assist in day-to-day operations. They’ll also conduct a mentored research project which will be presented to local NWS staff at the end of the summer. Some colleges/universities also grant class credit for time volunteering.

The volunteers will be expected to work 12-24 hours a week throughout the summer months.
