NY DMV will begin suspending licenses of drivers who didn't vision test during pandemic

The New York Department of Motor Vehicles says licenses that expired between March 1, 2020 and Aug. 31, 2021 may be suspended if drivers did not submit a vision test.

Drivers who renewed their licenses online and only self-certified their vision status may have their licenses suspended on Friday, Dec. 1. if they do not submit an official vision test to the DMV. The reason for that gap in vision testing was because it wasn't required at the time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and limited access to vision tests at DMV locations and at medical facilities.

But, it's not too late to submit a test. The DMV said drivers can submit a vision report online or through an approved provider. Tests from providers like eye doctors who are not approved by the DMV's Vision registry require the provider to submit a vision test report as well.

You can also have your vision tested at your local DMV.

Drivers will need to submit their vision tests before Dec. 1 to prevent a license suspension.

A list of approved providers can be found on the DMV website.
