NY Giants 2022 starting QB betting odds: Daniel Jones heavy favorite pre-NFL combine

The NFL Scouting Combine kicks off this week at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis with the New York Giants having the fifth and seventh overall picks in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft in Las Vegas.

With three picks in the top 36 overall selections, and nine total throughout the seven rounds, one major question Giants fans want to know at a time of quarterback shopping -- will Daniel Jones remain their starting QB? From a betting standpoint, it seems all but certain.

As of now, BetMGM currently has Jones as a -500 (Bet $500 to win $100) favorite to take the first snap for the Giants, while any other QB is at +340 (Bet $100 to win $340) for New York in Week 1 of the 2022-23 NFL season.

Yahoo Sports' Greg Brainos reported that 50% of the bets from the public are on the heavy favorite Jones' to be the starter come early September.

However, his future doesn't look as bright as it once did. ESPN's Jordan Raanan recently reported that the Giants most likely will not pick up the former sixth overall pick's fifth year option in the coming months - instead gambling to see how things play out with Jones over the coming year. Baring anything unforeseen, Jones will likely be back at the helm. The team currently sits slightly $12 million over the cap with two months until they'll have to add a plethora of young talent to the roster in late April.

Even if the rumors start to swirl around the QB position throughout the offseason, the new Giants brass in GM Joe Schoen and HC Brian Daboll have already supported the former Duke QB as the starter for next season in their introductory news conferences.

There's no question difficult decisions on key veterans will have to be made before the first play of the 2022 season. As much as fans ride on the turnover-prone QB, it seems all but certain Jones will be back under center amid the current salary cap concerns and no real competition behind him.

FOR GIANTS FANS: Keep an eye on these 10 players at the NFL Combine

Los Angeles Rams outside linebacker Leonard Floyd (54) knocks the ball out of New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones' (8) hand resulting in a fumble, recovered by the Giants, in the first half. The Giants fall to the Rams, 38-11, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021, in East Rutherford.

However, this type of bet is something to keep an eye on as the season progresses this Fall. After being ruled out with a neck injury in late November, Jones was the third odds-on-favorite at +200 to be the Giants starting QB in 2022 behind the scenarios where the team acquired a QB via trade (+150) or signed a free agent QB at +175 according to SportsBetting.ag.

If Jones continues to battle nagging injuries or keeps turning the ball over at a substantial rate, don't be surprised if the betting odds are completely reversed come this time next offseason. He'd be a free agent at end of season if his option is not picked up before the deadline in a few months and would probably be a heavy underdog betting wise to return if it's another down year.

The new regime did not draft Jones and would probably prefer a different option, whether it's a potential high draft pick or a big-name free agent QB when the team will have more cap space come 2023.
