UPDATED: How NY high school football playoffs shape up for Section 4 teams

From the New York Public High School Athletic Association on Thursday afternoon:

"Due to the impending snowstorm and concerns about travel, NYSPHSAA announces the following changes to regional football games to be played this weekend:"

Corning vs. Cicero-North Syracuse, noon Sat.

Waverly vs. General Brown, 6 p.m. Sat.

Section 4 will be represented by three top-ranked squads in state football quarterfinals to be played Friday and Saturday at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Michael J. Bragman Stadium.

Maine-Endwell, Waverly and Tioga sit atop New York State Sports Writers Association tabulations in their respective enrollment classifications − the Spartans and Tigers from Day 1, the Wolverines newly installed following a win against previous No. 1 Chenango Forks.

This weekend’s winners move along to semifinals the following weekend at Union-Endicott’s Ty Cobb Stadium, with finals set for Dec. 3-4 in the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse.

Three quarterfinals are rematches from last year:

  • C-NS defeated Corning, 20-16.

  • Maine-Endwell defeated Homer, 48-22.

  • Tioga defeated Dolgeville, 50-12.

Class AA

Matchup: Corning (6-3) vs. Cicero-North Syracuse (10-1), noon Saturday.

State rankings: Corning No. 27; C-NS No. 6.

Last weekend: Corning beat Elmira, 46-24; C-NS beat CBA, 34-20.

State playoff appearances: Corning fifth; C-NS fifth.

State playoff records: Corning 0-4; C-NS 3-4.

To the winner: 5-McQuaid Jesuit or 6-Lewis J. Bennett/Olmstead/Middle Early College/East, 6 p.m. Nov. 26 at U-E.

Class A

Matchup: Union-Endicott (9-1) vs. West Genesee (8-2), 8 p.m. Friday.

State rankings: U-E No. 8; West Genesee No. 11.

Last weekend: U-E beat Vestal, 30-14; West Genesee beat Fayetteville-Manlius, 23-0.

State playoff appearances: U-E 16th; West Genesee third.

State playoff records: U-E 3-15; West Genesee 3-1.

To the winner: 5-Hilton or 6-Jamestown, 6 p.m. Nov. 25 at U-E.

State rankings: M-E No. 1; Homer No. 7.

Last weekend: M-E beat Norwich, 37-13; Homer beat Indian River, 14-0.

State playoff appearances: M-E 10th; Homer fifth.
