NY high school wrestling tourney: What to know about Section 4 athletes, seeds, schedule

New York’s foremost high school wrestlers, among them a 56-strong contingent from Section 4, will convene in Albany for this weekend’s state championships.

Two days of competition at MVP Arena are to commence 10 a.m. Friday across Division I (large school) and Division II (small school) and conclude with Saturday night finals.

A potentially productive group from the Southern Tier includes four returning champions and seven No. 1 seeds, that cast featuring:

  • Chenango Forks senior Tyler Ferrara, top finisher last winter at 126 pounds and top seed this time at 132. The Press & Sun-Bulletin’s 2022 Athlete of the Year will seek to complete a second consecutive undefeated season.

  • Tioga Central’s once-beaten Gianni Silvestri, a junior who’ll seek a third state title − this time around at 126 pounds.

Also back for a go at consecutive titles are once-beaten Darren Florance of B-G/Afton/Harpursville (110) and Tioga’s unbeaten Ousmane Duncanson (160).
