NY Man Uses 'Decoy' to Lure Accused Package Thief
A New Yorker who said he was “done” with parcel thieves decided to take direct action, by placing what he called “decoy packages” outside his door, with the aim of nabbing a porch pirate. And he did just that, as recent video shows.
Carlos Mejia told Storyful “plenty” of his neighbors were “tired of people just following the UPS, FedEx, USPS deliveries and taking everything we work hard for. I was just trying to make an example for those out there doing the same thing … stealing from others.”
Footage from a security camera owned by Mejia shows a man coming to his door on March 30, and attempting to take one box and place it in his backpack.
Mejia then comes out with a baseball bat and detains the suspect. Separate video shows police arriving at the property, with the suspect being arrested.
Victor Stazzone, 36, was arrested on March 30 on charges of petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminal trespass, the New York Police Department told Storyful in a statement.
