NY Mets offering over $40M per year to All-Star pitcher Max Scherzer, reports say

The New York Mets are closing in on signing All-Star starting pitcher Max Scherzer, according to a report from MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
Scherzer ranks fourth among active players in career wins with 190. He's won at least 18 games four times in his career, which includes stints with the Diamondbacks, Tigers, Nationals and Dodgers.
He won a World Series with the Nationals in 2019 and has posted an ERA below 3.00 in seven of the past nine seasons.
Citing two sources, SNY's Andy Martino is reporting that the Mets are offering approximately $42 million per season for either three or four years.

The Mets have been busy since new general manager Billy Eppler was introduced on Nov. 19.
On Friday, the Mets signed All-Star outfielder Starling Marte to a four-year, $78 million deal. Earlier that same day, they added free agents Eduardo Escobar and Mark Cahna.
