NYC Council to vote Monday on expelling Andy King

The City Council is scheduled to vote on expelling Councilman Andy King (D-Bronx) on Monday, according to Council staff.

The Council’s Ethics Committee voted Tuesday to recommend his expulsion, citing harassment and discrimination against a female staffer, a “corrupt scheme” in which he misappropriated Council cash and refusal to comply with punishment the Council gave him for ethics violations it substantiated last year.

King’s office did not immediately answer a request for comment.

King was suspended from the Council for 30 days in the fall and had a monitor placed in his office for conflict-of-interest violations, retaliation against staff and homophobic comments.

The Ethics Committee launched a new investigation into King in February, eventually finding that he tried to circumvent the monitor and subjected her to sexist remarks. He also never paid a $15,000 fine the Council doled out last year.
