NYC Drops Out Of Country's 10 Most Expensive ZIP Codes In 2020

NEW YORK, NY — The coronavirus crisis has knocked New York City out of the top tier for the most expensive places to live in the country.

For the first time, no New York City ZIP code made it into the top 10 in Property Shark's annual study of the 100 priciest ZIP codes across the country, a sign that the city's real estate market felt the effects of the COVID-19 crisis "at a sharper degree" than others, according to the researchers.

The drop was mainly due to two ZIP codes in TriBeCa that typically have some of the highest median home prices in the country.

Both those ZIP codes, and two others in New York City on the list, saw double-digit drops compared to last year. In fact, one ZIP coded covering Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan saw the largest price drop of any in the country.

Only two New York City ZIP codes on the most expensive list saw their sale prices increase from 2019, including one on the Upper West Side, where a new luxury condo development led to the sharpest increase in the country.

Only one ZIP code in the outer boroughs made it onto the list: Carroll Gardens' 11231, which landed in the 100 spot given an unchanged median sale price from last year.

  • 10007, $3.15 million: Number 11

  • 10013, $2.999 million: Number 13

  • 10069, $2.73 million: Number 22

  • 10282, $2.48 million: Number 28

  • 10001, $1.83 million: Number 53

  • 10012, $1.79 million: Number 58

  • 10023, $1.71 million: Number 66

  • 10019, $1.6 million: Number 81

  • 10018, $1.56 million: Number 84

  • 11231, $1.45 million: Number 100
