NYC lifts capacity restriction on outdoor public school graduation ceremonies

City public schools can now squeeze as many people as they want in outdoor graduation ceremonies — as long as they keep up with masks and social distance.

Education Department officials Wednesday lifted the capacity cap on city school graduation ceremonies, following Gov. Cuomo’s announcement Tuesday that COVID-19 restrictions will ease statewide.

Previous state guidelines required schools to operate at limited capacity in large outdoor venues.

Students and staff will still be required to wear masks, complete health screening forms, and keep 6 feet of social distance at the outdoor ceremonies.

Capacity restrictions for indoor venues, which were more stringent, are still in place, officials said.
