Gov. Cuomo should force the city to delay the start of the school year, says the chair of the City Council’s Education Committee.
“He should order the delay of in-person school because New York City is not ready to safely reopen by Sept. 10,” Councilman Mark Treyger (D-Brooklyn) told the Daily News on Wednesday.
He also repeated growing calls for the governor to authorize the city to borrow funds to cover operating costs as the Big Apple reels from historic revenue shortfalls due to the coronavirus outbreak.
"Rather than perpetuate this charade on TV, the mayor would be better suited to round up stakeholders and say the city needs more money to get this right and to keep kids and staff adequately safe."
