NYC salad chain opens newest location in Morris County

A New York City-based salad chain officially opened its sixth New Jersey location on Wednesday.

Just Salad is now officially doing business in Morristown after a soft opening in July, the fast-casual chain announced this week.

The store is based out of the Morris Marketplace, which opened earlier this month after four years of redevelopment efforts. Officials have penned the 140,000-square-foot shopping center as one-of-a-kind.

"If you have a place like this, it just encourages people to come and to gather, and once they're coming and gathering and relaxing, that will benefit the retailers as well,” one of the marketplace’s developers, Robert Indig, said earlier this month.

Just Salad joins other tenants in the shopping center like Starbucks, Panda Express, Turning Point, a Lidl grocery store and Jersey Mike’s subs. The 2,002-square-foot store is officially situated at 191 E. Hanover Ave., Unit E-1. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Overall, guests will be able to choose from more than 15 chef-designed wraps, warm bowls, avocado toast options, soups and smoothies at the new store.

Darren Tristano, CEO and founder of FoodService Results, a food service marketing research and consulting firm, said that many consumers are looking for “good food fast,” while still remaining health-conscious.

Options like this and Playa Bowls have sprung up to meet the growing demand. Nearby in downtown Morristown, salad fast food chain Sweetgreen is coming to Morristown’s M Station.

“I think that maybe even a little bit more coming off of the pandemic … health is a little bit more of an awareness," said Jerry Eicke, owner and operator of several Playa Bowls franchise locations.

The restaurant openings come amid a craze around health foods and “superfoods” - nutrient-dense foods containing antioxidants that are believed to provide health benefits.

According to marketing analytics firm Nielsen, 72% of global consumers said they would buy foods that include these superfoods.

Just Salad started in New York City in 2006. There are more than 70 locations across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and North Carolina.
