NYC woman sentenced to prison for death of woman she injected with silicone: DA

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – A New York City woman who illegally injected a woman with silicone during a botched cosmetic procedure that resulted in the victim’s death has been sentenced to prison, the Bronx district attorney said Thursday.

Whalesca Castillo, 49, of the Bronx, was sentenced Thursday to four to eight years in prison for the death of a woman and the serious injuring of another woman during botched cosmetic procedures provided in her home, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.

“The defendant illegally injected the victim with a silicone substance for cosmetic purposes,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement. “Tragically, the injections killed the victim. The defendant also performed a dangerous cosmetic procedure that left another woman with substantial pain.”

Castillo pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault in December, authorities said. She did not have a license to practice medicine or cosmetic surgery, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.

In June of 2018, Castillo injected silicone into the body of a 48-year-old woman as part of a cosmetic procedure to enhance the victim’s buttocks, authorities said. The victim died of systemic silicone embolism syndrome shortly after receiving the injections, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.

Earlier that year, Castillo performed the same cosmetic procedure on a 39-year-old woman that left her with extensive infections and pain in her buttocks and thighs, authorities said.

“These cases hopefully will serve as a warning to the public to not undergo unauthorized procedures that can gravely threaten their health or even cause death,” Clark said.
