NYPD hunts suspect in Times Square subway platform stabbing; victim and assailant had words, police say

A 51-year-old man was stabbed in the chest during a confrontation with a stranger at the Times Square subway station in Midtown Manhattan, police said Wednesday.

The victim was waiting for a No. 1 train at the station just before 8 p.m. on Saturday when the suspect suddenly pushed him, flashed a knife and jammed it into his chest, cops said.

EMS rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he was expected to survive.

His attacker fled the station and remained at large Wednesday.

The victim told police he had never seen his attacker before going into the station, cops said.

The two did have some sharp words at the turnstile after the victim asked him a question, a police source with knowledge of the case said, adding that the attack does not appear to be unprovoked.

It was not immediately clear what the victim asked.

Cops on Wednesday released surveillance video of the attacker in the hopes that someone recognizes him.

He’s described as Black, between 6-feet-1 and 6-feet-3, with facial hair, and was last seen with dark clothing and white headphones, cops said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
