NYPD officer opens fire in East Harlem as suspect flees car stop, nearly clipping a cop

An NYPD officer fired a shot at a suspected crook who nearly struck a cop with his vehicle while fleeing a car stop in East Harlem, cops said Wednesday.

Cops on patrol spotted a vehicle near Madison Ave. and E. 99th St. about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday that had been seen at several commercial robberies in the area, police said.

The officers boxed in the motorist with their cop cars, but the suspect vaulted the sidewalk, nearly clipping an officer approaching on foot, police said.

A cop fired a round at the escaping vehicle but didn’t hit anything, police said. The vehicle sped off but was found abandoned a few blocks away.

No arrests have been made, police said. The officer who fired his weapon was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for ringing in the ears.
