NYPD Officer Released From Hospital After Being Struck by Bullet While Sleeping in Car

An NYPD officer who was struck by a stray bullet while sleeping in his car between shifts was cheered by his colleagues as he was released from hospital on January 2.

The officer, Keith Wagenhauser, was resting in his car in the early hours of New Year’s Day outside a Harlem station house when he woke to the sound of his window smashing and a pain in his head, the New York Post said.

After undergoing surgery to remove the bullet fragments lodged in his fractured skull, the 33-year-old was cheered by around 60 fellow officers as he was discharged.

NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said that it is was not clear if he was the intended target of the shooting.
