Dublin City Council is expected to act Aug. 22 to hire Megan O’Callaghan as the next city manager of the city of Dublin.

Dublin Vice Mayor Cathy De Rosa announced the selection of O’Callaghan, Dublin’s current deputy city manager, chief finance and development officer, Aug. 2 at a special meeting of Dublin City Council.

O’Callaghan is to succeed Dublin City Manager Dana McDaniel, who announced his intent to retire in the fall of 2020 after 33 years of service to Dublin, including as city manager since 2015.

In December 2021, Dublin City Council contracted with Affion Public to assist Dublin in a search for its next city manager.

Dublin Mayor Jane Fox, a member of council, said the city has confidence that O’Callaghan will continue “to advance the many high qualities of Dublin.”

O’Callaghan was selected from three finalists, according to Lindsay Weisenauer, director of communications and public information for the city of Dublin.

O’Callaghan was employed at the city of Columbus and the Ohio Department of Transportation before being hired as Dublin’s service director in 2014.

O’Callaghan is not to speak about the new position until after a contract is in place, Weisenauer said.

The date on which O’Callaghan will officially transition to city manager is to become known Aug. 22, when a contract is expected to be considered, according to Weisenauer.

Although Dublin chose from within to find its next city manager, a national search was undertaken.

City Council conducted a national search with executive search firm Affion Public and recently interviewed O’Callaghan and two other candidates, Weisenauer said.

“Council’s goal through this process was to ensure that Dublin’s next city manager is an outstanding, skilled leader who is in touch with the needs and aspirations of our diverse resident and business community, and committed to continuing our strong tradition of collaboration, engagement and partnership,” said De Rosa, chair of Dublin’s administrative committee.

City Council began the search process earlier this year in preparation for the departure of McDaniel.

O’Callaghan’s salary and compensation package are under negotiation. Her first day is anticipated to be announced at the Aug. 22 meeting, Weisenauer said.

O’Callaghan is a graduate of The Ohio State University and has a law degree from Capital University Law School.
