Oak Lawn-Area Halloween 2020: Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes, Event

OAK LAWN, IL — Coronavirus has taken its toll on Illinois, canceling events and postponing sports, graduations and even weddings, but there’s one thing it hasn’t taken from us: Fall fun.

From pumpkin patches to apple orchards to corn mazes and fall events, there’s plenty to keep us busy as the weather turns cool and crisp.

Here’s a roundup of the places in and around Oak Lawn where you can pick a pumpkin, gather up fall apples, wind your way through a corn maze or attend a safe and socially distanced fall event.

Pumpkin patches, corn mazes near Oak Lawn

First United Methodist Church of Oak Lawn

  • Address: 100th Street and Central Avenue, Oak Lawn

  • Season: Oct. 10 through Oct. 31

  • Attractions: Pumpkins of all shapes, colors and sizes, wide selection of gourds, Halloween and Christmas crafts and homemade baked goodies. Also, tractor rides (family groups only) and scarecrow building. Face masks required. Please practice social distancing.

  • Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.

  • Pricing: Pumpkins are measured by the circumference, 50-cents up to the largest size ever sold, which was $50. Average cost is $10. Free admission.

The Children's Farm at The Center

  • Address: 12700 Southwest Highway, Palos Park

  • Season: Now open through Oct. 31

  • Attractions: Pumpkins of all shapes, colors and sizes, wide selection of gourds, Barn tours (reservations required) and petting farm, spooky wood shed, haunted hay tent, hay rack rides and concessions. Sixty acres of mapped walking trails. Please wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

  • Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Saturday; open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12),

  • Pricing: $8 age 2 and up for pumpkin patch and attractions; patch only is free.

Siegel's Cottonwood Farm

  • Address: 17250 Weber Road, Lockport

  • Season: Sept. 26 to Oct. 31

  • Hours: Country store: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Pumpkin Fest: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday to Sunday.

  • Attractions: Giant checkers, and tic tac toe, straw mountain, the famous corn maze (this year's theme is "Peace on Earth"), Connect 4, Peter Pumpkin Show and more. Stateville Haunted House closed for 2020 due to COVID-19.

  • Pumpkins, produce and more: Siegel's has a real pumpkin field that families can take a hayrack ride out to and pick a pumpkin right off the vine.

  • Cost: $19.95 on site/$16.95 online Friday to Sunday and Columbus Day. Weekend all-inclusive pass (Saturday/Sunday and Columbus Day) $27.95, must be purchased online. Free admission for military, police and fire with ID. ATMs available.

Bengtson's

  • Address: 13341 W. 151st. Street, Homer Glen

  • Season: Sept. 25 to Nov. 2

  • Hours: Hours vary. More information is available on Bengtson's website. No weekday admission for 2020.

  • Attractions: Tractor Town, Happy Swing, chicken truck, mega slide, cow coaster, free selfie booth, gemstone and arrow head mining, pony rides, petting zoo, haunted barn, fun barn, pumpkins and more.

  • Pumpkins, produce and more: You can pick the perfect pumpkin, take home some of Bengtson's specialty products, enjoy an apple cider donut and several other delectable treats.

  • Cost: Admission ranges from $13.99 to $25.99 depending on the day and time. See the website for more details. Military (active duty or retired) are admitted free with ID. Pony rides an additional $6.

Cemeteries Around Chicagoland, 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29

Kevin Korst, the local historian for the Oak Lawn Public Library, will take patrons on a virtual tour of Chicago-area cemeteries. Oak Lawn Park District Costumes Pumpkins, Candy, Oh My!, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15

Carve some fun into fall with the Oak Lawn Park District as we enjoy an evening filled with pumpkin decorating, jack-o-lanterns and yummy treats. Come to Wolfe Wildlife Refuge, 109th St and Laramie Avenue, for costumes, pumpkins and After making jack-o-lanterns with your family, enjoy some s’mores by the campfire. Preregistration is required, and the fee is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents. Fee is per family and includes one pumpkin. For more information, call 708-857-2200.
