Oak Ridge Community Band concert is Feb. 18

The Oak Ridge Community Band will present an entertaining variety of music, most of it from the current century, at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Grove Theater.

The concert is free, but donations are welcome and help defray expenses.

The Community Band is led by Shaun Salem, but on Sunday will feature three guest directors, all of whom are band members.

Horn player Patrick Thomas will conduct “Groovee,” trumpet section leader Arthur Acres will be directing the band in “Riversongs,” and band member and Clinton High School band conductor Ezekiel Schloss will direct “Into the Storm.”

Other selections on Sunday’s program will be “Colonel Bogey’s March,” “Overture into the Great Hall,” “3,2,1…” “Encanto,” and “Coldplay in Symphony,” featuring “A Sky Full of Stars,” “Clocks,” “The Scientist,” and “Viva La Vida.”

NOTE: The Community Band’s Showcase event, originally slated in January, has been rescheduled for Feb. 25 at the First Baptist Church, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike. Band members and area musicians will present a variety of music in ensembles or as soloists.
