Oak Ridge Community Band performs "Great Escapades" Sunday at Grove Theater

If you are looking for a lovely way to end this weekend on a good “note,” you are invited to come to the historic Grove Theater, 123 Randolph Road, Oak Ridge, on Sunday evening to hear the Oak Ridge Community Band perform the “Great Escapades” concert. The free concert begins at 7 p.m.

Featured performer will be Oak Ridge High School senior London Asquith, who will be playing “Dreamsong” on the piano accompanied by the band. More on Sunday’s entertaining program will be musical selections with Spanish music such as “Man of La Mancha,” “Espana Cani,” and “Amparito Roca.”  In addition, the audience will hear the band perform “Emperata Overture” and “El Capitan.”

Highlight of the evening are expected to be band conductor and composer Shaun Salem’s transcription of an arrangement for wind orchestra of Vitezslav Novak’s “In the Tatra Mountains.” The performance of this piece will be the world premiere of Salem’s work.

There is no admission fee at any of the Community Band concerts, but donations to offset band expenses are greatly appreciated and can be made at the door or online via the band’s website at www.orcb.org, donating through PayPal, or through the Kroger Community Rewards program.  Contributions can also be mailed to ORCB, P.O. Rehearsals will begin for the Memorial Day concert on Thursday, April 27.
