ADFAC provides backpacks filled with school supplies for needy children in area schools. The organization has provided more than 4,500 filled backpacks for this school year. The Girl Scouts assisted in sorting and packing pouches and boxes for the backpack project.

Upcoming Girl Scout community service projects include serving at the Tea for Two event, supporting the Crossroads Ministry which provides housing for homeless and at-risk single mothers and their children, and participating in a ceremony recognizing World Peace Day on Sept. 21 at the Internatinoal Friendship Bell in Oak Ridge. Girl Scouts will also be assisting at the upcoming Access Oak Ridge Fair, organized by the Oak Ridge Disability Advisory Board, on Oct. 7 at the Oak Ridge Civic Center.
