Oaks Christian, Camarillo softball teams advance to SoCal regional semifinals

Micaela Kaster made sure the Oaks Christian softball team won CIF Southern California Division 1 regional opener Tuesday afternoon in Westlake Village.

The Notre Dame-bound senior threw a no-hitter and slugged two home runs as the second-seeded Lions routed visiting San Marcos 5-0 in the regional quarterfinals.

Oaks Christian (32-1) will host Mission Viejo (27-5) in the regional semifinals Friday at 11 a.m. The game was pushed to Friday because both schools hold their graduation ceremonies Thursday.

Kastor was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and two runs scored, homering in the first and third innings to stake herself to a 4-0 lead.

In the circle, she allowed just one walk. Oaks Christian did not commit an error.

Anahi Arreola was 2 for 3 with a solo home run in the sixth inning and Heaven Oliva also reached based twice for Oaks Christian.

Camarillo comeback

Senior Angelina Apodaca was 2 for 4 with two RBIs as Camarillo climbed out of a three-run hole to edge host El Camino Real, 4-3, in eight innings Tuesday afternoon in the CIF Southern California Division 1 regional softball quarterfinals.

Junior Ainsley Berlingeri allowed three hits, striking out six, over eight innings as the defending champion Scorpions (25-4) advanced to face top-seeded Eastvale-Roosevelt (27-3), the Southern Section Division 1 champion, in Thursday’s regional semifinals.

Fourth-seeded El Camino Real (24-7), the City Section Open Division champion, jumped on Camarillo with three runs in the first two innings.

Fifth-seeded Camarillo pulled within 3-2 on Apodaca’s RBI double and Jazlyn Alvary RBI single in the top of the fourth.

After Berlingeri escaped a two-on, one-out jam in the fifth, Rylee Pinedo hit a leadoff single, stole third and scored on Apodaca’s game-tying single in the top of the sixth.

The Scorpions produced the game-winning run in the top of the eighth.

Maggie Howe drew a leadoff walk, was sacrificed to second by Pinedo, moved to third on Justice Flores’ single and scored on Natalie Yamane’s single.
