Oatmeal Rising: Don't Miss the Resurrected Lafayette Festival

The annual celebration faced down cancellation last fall, but on Jan. 12 the beloved event will return.

LAFAYETTE, CO -- After the Lafayette Oatmeal Festival almost met the compost heap after Quaker threatened to pull its sponsorship this fall, the beloved community event is set to slop for the 23rd annual edition on Satruday, Jan. 12. The festival features an oatmeal breakfast with an extensive topping bar, a 5k run/walk, and a Bonfils blood drive.

The breakfast will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Pioneer Elementary School, and the 5k will take off at 9:30 a.m. sharp from the Colorado Music Festival & Center for Musical Arts, directly across the street from Pioneer Elementary. Registration will be open from 7:30–9:10 a.m., or you can register online in advance.

Event parking is limited, so the city will be running a shuttle from Flatirons Community Church, at 350 S. Boulder Road, continuously from 7:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., and asks that attendees carpool or take RTD.

After Quaker announced that it would no longer be supporting the festival, Lafayette officials confirmed that they would no longer be able to put on the event without the oatmeal icon's support. Many community members and leaders voiced their grief publicly, while others took the step of contacting Quaker directly about the decision. Just a couple of weeks later, the good news arrived — Quaker was back in, and the Oatmeal Festival would continue in 2019.
