Washington (AFP) - US President Barack Obama will make a statement at 4:00 pm (2000 GMT) on Thursday, the White House said, amid growing pressure on Russia over the conflict in neighboring Ukraine.

The White House offered no immediate details as to what the president would say, but there was a flurry of diplomatic activity over the Ukraine crisis, with Samantha Power, the US envoy to the UN, accusing Moscow of lying and fueling the conflict.
