Along with rising up to No. 13 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, the Texas Tech men's basketball team got a little more good news Monday.
Kevin Obanor was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year after netting 16 points and six rebounds following a pair of conference wins over Iowa State and West Virginia. Kansas' Ochai Agbaji and Kansas Syaye's Nijel Pack shared Big 12 Player of the Week honors.
The Red Raiders were slated to take on No. 5 Kansas at 8 p.m. Monday inside Allen Fieldhouse. The contest finished after the A-J's print deadline. For full results, visit www.lubbockonline.com.
Obanor is the first Texas Tech player to earn a weekly conference honor this season, which included netting 15 points and eight rebounds to lead TTU to a 72-60 victory over then-No. 15 Iowa State last Tuesday. He followed that up with an 18-point, four-rebound performance in a 78-65 win over West Virginia last Saturday.
