Obituary: Aida Zaralegui, mother of Findlay Galleries COO, dies in Mexico

Aida Zaralegui, of San Diego, the mother of Findlay Galleries Chief Operating Officer Adolfo Zaralegui, died Sept. 16, 2021, while traveling in Mexico.

She was the only daughter of the late Adolfo Zaralegui Romero and the late Lidia Fraijo Merino.

She was a member of one Mexico's founding families through her maternal great-grandmother, Francisca Merino Pesqueira, who herself was the great-granddaughter of the founder of Sonora.

Her father, a marquis, was a Spanish nobleman.

As the head of Arizona Western College's Skills Center during the 1960s and '70s, she was an advocate for and supporter of women's rights. She empowered many women by training and placing them with companies that employed and supported women.

In addition to her son Adolfo, of Palm Beach and New York, she is survived by her son Mitch of Murrieta, Calif.; her daughter, Aida Houghton Zaralegui of Yuma, Ariz.; sons-in-law James Borynack of Palm Beach and New York, and Gary Houghton of Yuma; daughter-in-law Yazmin Zaralegui of Murrieta; and grandsons John Houghton, Gianni Zaralegui and Luca Zaralegui.

At her request, there were no services.
