What was the object shooting across the sky Thursday?

TOPEKA (KSNT) – On Thursday, people in Topeka and as far as parts of Oklahoma saw a bright object shoot across the sky, what was it?

NASA Advanced Astronomer Brenda Culbertson shed some insight into the sightings.

Culbertson said she didn’t personally see the object but read descriptions. She said the words ‘big, bright and green’ were used to describe it.

“I believe it most likely was what we call space junk, something coming back down from orbit,” Culbertson said. “The green color is probably from the metals whatever it was contained.”

Darkness will fall across Kansas with arrival of solar eclipse

Culbertson said the descriptions didn’t fit the current meteor shower we’re in. She added that if the object was seen across two states it likely started “burning” high up in the atmosphere.
