OC offering COVID-related rental help for residents

Officials in Orange County have announced that emergency rental assistance will be provided for eligible residents who are unable to pay rent and/or utilities because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But, if countries rely solely on vaccines, they are making a mistake."He noted that Ghana and the Ivory Coast became the first countries on Monday to begin vaccinating people with doses supplied by COVAX, the international program to provide vaccines for poor and middle-income countries.But he also criticized rich countries for hoarding vaccine doses, saying that it was in everyone's interest for vulnerable people to be protected around the world."It's regrettable that some countries continue to prioritize vaccinating younger healthier adults at lower risk of diseases in their own populations, ahead of health workers and older people elsewhere."Meanwhile, the WHO’s top emergency expert Mike Ryan added that while it is too early to say that the virus was under control, the global fight against COVID-19 is in a better state now than it was 10 weeks ago before the vaccine rollout began.

    The United States wasted billions of dollars in war-torn Afghanistan on buildings and vehicles that were either abandoned or destroyed, according to a report released Monday by a U.S. government watchdog. The agency said it reviewed $7.8 billion spent since 2008 on buildings and vehicles. Only $343.2 million worth of buildings and vehicles “were maintained in good condition,” said the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, or SIGAR, which oversees American taxpayer money spent on the protracted conflict.

The Massachusetts men, who have been locked up at a suburban Boston jail since their arrest in May, were handed over to Japanese officials early Monday, said one of their attorneys, Paul Kelly.
