OCA ALL-STATE UPDATE: Basketball teams pile up treys, points

Nets on both ends of the court did a mad dance to the explosive tune of offense during Thursday’s Oklahoma Coaches Association Small East vs. Small West basketball showdown.

The West squeezed out an 82-78 victory in the game played at Jenks.

Oklahoma Union’s Kade Hollingshed played for the East team.

Gunnar Gordon (Pawnee) pumped in 26 points to lead the East, followed by Brady Brister (Kingston) with 12.

For the West, Roberto Hernandez (Tyrone) dialed in 22 points, one of five double-digit scorers. Zach Hidalgo (Hooker) added 12 points.

The West nailed eight three-pointers and 14-of-22 free throws;

Treys exploded off the fingertips of East players like bursting popcorn. The squad hit 14 from downtown but only 8-of-11 from the charity stripe.

In the Large school game, both teams scorched the nets for a total of 199 points — East 106, West 93.

For the West, Ethan Scott (Mustang) buried 23 points while Jacobi Sebock (Midwest City) added 18.

Scott knocked down six three-pointers and the West made 18 total treys.

Here’s an amazing stat — the West attempted one free throw for the game.

The East stats hinted at the officials’ decision to let the teams play.

The team made only seven trips to the stripe, hitting five of them. The East made only seven three-pointers, but drained 40 deuces.

Caden Fry (Owasso) scored 23 points, followed by Bradyn Hubbard (Tulsa Memorial) with 17 and Anthony Allen (Broken Arrow) and Aaron Potter (Tulsa Washington) with 15 each for the East.
