Ocala Police Department investigates April 29 stabbing death: What we know

As the Ocala Police Department continues its investigation into the stabbing death of a man over the weekend, officials have released the name of the deceased.

Here is what we know:

Who was killed?

The victim has been identified as Deangelo Laverne Williams, 27, of Ocala.

Who is accused of stabbing Williams?

Detectives from the Ocala Police Department are not releasing the name of the person accused of stabbing Williams. They did say that person also is age 27.

Where and when did this happen?

According to police, the stabbing took place at a residence located in the 2300 block of Northwest Seventh Street shortly before 1 a.m. on April 29.

Officers said they were notified about the stabbing at 12:46 a.m. and arrived within a few minutes. They performed life-saving measures on Williams until medical personnel got to the scene.

Williams was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, where he later died. Detectives said Williams was stabbed once in the chest.

What has the investigation revealed so far?

Police officials said Williams and a man were arguing over a woman when they began physically fighting.

During the scuffle, Williams was stabbed. Authorities said he staggered to a nearby residence, where he collapsed.

What is the next step?

At the conclusion of their investigation, OPD detectives will present their results to prosecutors at the State Attorney's Office for their review.

That office will make a determination on whether the accused stabber will be charged.
