Occupants displaced by apartment complex fire on Riva Ridge Drive

Mansfield firefighters early Monday morning battled a fire at a two-story apartment complex at 1665 Riva Ridge Drive which displaced residents from all eight units.

Mansfield fire Chief Steve Strickling said the fire call came in at 2:47 a.m. Monday.

Two people were taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation. No information was immediately available as to their conditions.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Strickling said. "The fire was in the attic when we arrived," he added.

"The top four apartments suffered heat and fire damage and the first-floor apartments suffered water damage," he said.

All vehicles in the parking garage below were moved to safety.

The American Red Cross is assisting tenants.
