According to the Mansfield police crash report, Zackary T. Logan, 30, of Mount Gilead, was traveling southbound on Fifth Avenue, driving a red Pontiac Grand Am.

Michael Keith Hill, 587, of Mansfield, was driving a maroon Honda Pilot, traveling northbound on Fifth Avenue.

Both vehicles were negotiating a curve. Logan's vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control and crossed into Logan's lane of travel, police said.

Logan's vehicle struck Hill's vehicle in the front driver side. Hill's vehicle was pushed into the guardrail on the northeast side of the road, according to the police report.

Logan's vehicle then exited the right side of the roadway and hit a tree before coming to rest on Vine Street. Photographs were taken at the scene by crime lab technician Cindy Reed.

A reporter could see freshly torn up grass and dirt packed around the red Pontiac's wheels and the windshield was shattered and the car appeared totaled, as the crash blocked traffic on the busy road.

Karmela Hope Adkins, 30, of Mansfield, was an occupant in the Pontiac Grand Am. She had no apparent injuries and fled on foot from the crash scene, police said. Logan had suspected minor injuries. He too fled on foot but was apprehended by officers. He has not been cited yet.

Hill was transported to a hospital for injuries.

Both vehicles were towed. The posted speed limit is 25 mph.
