Occupiers "sell" apartment of Ukrainian First Lady in Crimea

The Russian occupiers have sold an apartment in the city of Yalta (Crimea) belonging to Olena Zelenska, the wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at the auction for over UAH 17 million (US$467,403 – ed.).

Quote: "The property located in the settlement of Livadia (Yalta) on the Baturyn Street, building 44 A, apt. 501 with an area of 119.5 m2 was put up for auction.

Starting price of the lot was RUB 24 642 000 (US $263,586 – ed.), the step of the auction was RUB 1 232 000. Two participants-physical entities from Moscow were present at the bidding. As a result Yulia Kalnitskaya suggested RUB 43.124 million (US $459,954), and winner Olga Lipovetskaya – RUB 44.356 million (US $470651)."

Previously: After the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 the Communist Party of Russia, suggested "compensating the damage done to Donbas at the expense of the assets of Ukrainian officials in Russia", specifically, to confiscate an apartment in occupied Crimea from Olena Zelenska.

Background:

  • Olena Zelenska bought an apartment with an area of 129.8 m2 in a luxury apartment complex at the same address as the Livadia Palace in April 2013 together with a parking place with an area of 16.1 m2.

  • According to the declaration of Zelenskyy the cost of this property was UAH 1.3 million (more than US $160 000 according to an exchange rate of that period).

  • In 2019, the Reuters agency reported that Zelenska bought a luxury apartment in Livadia for half the market price from former Member of the Ukrainian Parliament and oligarch Oleksandr Buriak. Reuters remarked that the couple was selling this apartment.

  • The staff of Zelenskyy stated back then that the apartment was bought for the market price and that the couple will only live in the apartment "after mandatory liberation of Crimea". The plans to sell the apartment were not mentioned in the statement.

  • Crimea.Realii reported that the Crimean apartment of Olena Zelenska was located in the luxury residential complex Imperator (Emperor) in Livadia next to the residences of politicians, successful entrepreneurs and celebrities.
