Ocean Acres School Temporarily Closing Due To 3 Coronavirus Cases

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Ocean Acres Elementary School will temporarily close after officials identified three coronavirus cases at the school. The school will go remote next week and return to in-person learning Nov. 9, after the November break.

Officials identified the cases over the past week, Superintendent George J. Chidiac said in a letter to parents and staff. The closure won't affect any other school in Stafford's district.

Chidiac said the decision came "after working with the Ocean County Health Department to analyze the facts and circumstances of the cases and to complete contact tracing."

The Stafford Township School District was among the few in the area to begin the school year allowing students to learn in-person five days per week. Students may also learn virtually or through the hybrid model.

Governor Phil Murphy, meanwhile, reported 1,994 new coronavirus cases Saturday — the state's highest daily total since May — and eight additional deaths.
