Fans of "Abbott Elementary" know this week's episode was essential because we finally got to meet Janine's mother, played by Taraji P. Henson, but it was also one loaded with fun references to Ocean City and the Orioles.

Early in the penultimate episode of season 2, Janine, played by star and creator Quinta Brunson, announces to the teaching crew that she's going on a "girl trip" (solo, not a "girls' trip") to Ocean City.

"I saved enough money to take myself to Ocean City," she announces to her fellow Philly educators Jersey? No , Maryland. And it gets even funnier when she announces her specific destination, the Princess Royale.

"I've wanted to go there ever since I was little. So I'm excited,"Janine says, later clarifying, "I'm going to the Princess Royale, which is a three-star hotel. But it has the confidence of four."

True enough, and of course scene-stealing Janelle James as Principal Ava Coleman gets the last word on that.

" I only stay at five-star hotels. They become a six when I walk in."

Adley Rutschman, Orioles also get fun name checks

The Baltimore Orioles, and specifically hard-hitting catcher Adley Rutschman, also came up big in this week's episode.

As Tyler James Williams' teacher Gregory Eddie tries to work on his small talk skills, he finally has a birdland breakthrough with one of the school's cafeteria workers.

Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (35) celebrates hitting the game winning walk off home run during the ninth inning against the Oakland Athletics at Oriole Park at Camden Yards Apr 13, 2023, in Baltimore.

Catching up on a fictional game she missed, he says "Uh, 5-3 O's. Adley Rutschman hit an opposite field walk off homer. And Cedric Mullins was a single shy of the cycle."

The very next day, Rutschman did indeed hit a walkoff homer as the Orioles beat the Oakland A's 8-7. Eeriely prescient? Yes, but equally fun.
