Ocean City High School To Hold In-Person Graduation
OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City High School's graduation ceremony is on. The school will hold a ceremony the morning of July 7 at Carey Stadium.
Governor Phil Murphy announced Monday he would allow outdoor graduation ceremonies starting July 6. They must "comply with social distancing — ensuring the health and safety of all in attendance," Murphy said.
With in-person instruction closed the rest of the school year, districts around New Jersey prepared for the possibility of canceled commencements.
With Murphy's decision to allow the events, the Department of Education and the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education will release further guidance Wednesday. The guidance may require large graduating classes to hold multiple ceremonies on different times or days.

The Ocean City School District provided the following statement:
"We are beyond thrilled with today's decision by Governor Murphy to allow on-site graduation events to take place throughout the state of NJ. We have set the date for the Ocean City High School Graduation to be held on Tuesday July 7th, at Carey Stadium in the morning. This time honored tradition is a true rite of passage for our Ocean City School District graduates and their families, and we are excited to be able to move forward and finalize plans for this event to take place on our school grounds. The Board of Education, Administration, and Staff are committed to following all guidelines provided by both state and local officials to ensure the safety for all staff, students and families involved. Additional details will be forthcoming following the release of guidelines from the NJ Department of Education."
