Ocean City Town Engineer Terry McGean to take over town manager position next month

Terry McGean, who’s served as Ocean City Town Engineer for three decades, will step into his new role as town manager Feb. 1.

“I was ready for a new challenge in my career,” he said.

McGean was selected by the Town Council to replace Doug Miller, who announced his resignation just before Christmas after serving the town for almost six years. Miller, who said he’s leaving to pursue other interests, will work his last day Jan. 31.

During McGean’s tenure as engineer, he played a significant role in Ocean City’s beach replenishment program, the public boat ramp construction at 64th Street and multiple convention center expansions, according to a news release from the town.

Terry McGean has served as Ocean City Town Engineer since 1990 and will now shift to a new position as town manager.

Right now, he’s overseeing improvements on Baltimore Avenue, Boardwalk re-decking, new fire station plans and the development of a downtown recreation complex.

McGean said he’s excited to make “an even bigger contribution to the success of (Ocean City).”

The 57-year-old McGean is originally from the Fairfax, Virginia, area. He lives in Bishopville with his wife of 34 years, Linda, and their 13-year-old son Ricardo. The McGeans became Ricardo’s legal guardian after he, a student of Linda’s, came to stay with them three years ago. They also have two adult sons.
