Ocean Springs man killed in boat accident was a young father and treasured friend

Friends and family who are mourning the passing of Steven Nalll of Ocean Springs are remembering him as “a son, a brother, a friend and ... the best dad to his precious daughter, Haisley Jade.”

Nall, 22, died in a boating accident Sunday afternoon on Old Fort Bayou at the end of Sanctuary Blvd., said Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd, Jr. It is north of the St. Martin sports complex. The cause of death was blunt force trauma and drowning, he said.

Mississippi’s Department of Marine Resources is investigating the single boat accident.

A Go Fund Me account has been started for funeral expenses for Nall.

“This is something no family should have to go through but as they are processing this and grieving , let’s try to take away some of the financial burden they are going to have through this,” said Morgan Mckay, the organizer of the fundraiser that by Tuesday morning had reached nearly half of its $10,000 goal.

His family and friends posted photos and memories of Nall on social media.

“Thank you to everyone that has reached out to us during this very difficult time it means so very much to us — our son is a very caring and loving young man and is and always will be everything to us,” posted his father, Steven Nall.

“I just want to wake up from this nightmare,” said Jaden Dedeaux. “You were perfect, you loved so hard, the most respectful man, the best partner and one amazing father to our little girl. There are no words, I’m shattered.”

“Steven was truly one of the best men I’ve ever met,” posted Mason Gautier. “I feel so lucky to call him a friend. All the late nights that turned into early mornings, all the laughs, the business plans we had and the memories made. Haisley will know what a great man her father was.”

Edgewater Nutrition in Biloxi pledged a portion of sales this week to help the family with expenses.

Funeral arrangements haven’t yet been announced.
