Ochsner Lafayette General named best hospital in Southwest Louisiana in new report

The Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center was named the Best Hospital in Southwestern Louisiana by U.S. News & World Report in its annual best hospitals list.

The medical center, which includes the Ochsner Lafayette General Surgical Hospital, Ochsner Lafayette General Orthopedic Hospital and the Ochsner Cancer Center of Acadiana, also was noted to have eight "high-performing" procedures and conditions, including acute kidney failure, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement, stroke and leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

"We are honored to be named the Best Hospital in the Region by U.S. News & World Report," said Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center CEO Al Patin in a release. "This achievement reflects the unwavering commitment and tireless efforts of exceptional healthcare professionals who bring dedication and expertise to our hospitals every day.

"To be recognized as ‘high performing’ in eight procedures and conditions reflects the best of healthcare and a team driven by passion and purpose. It’s what sets us apart as a healthcare leader in our region. We are humbled by the trust our communities place in us, and we remain steadfast in our mission to always deliver excellence in healthcare to those we serve."

For its 2023-2024 Best Hospitals list, U.S. News looked at more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 21 procedures and conditions. Of those evaluated, only 12% of hospitals received a "Best Hospitals" ranking. The designation goes to hospitals that exceled in areas such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.

It's the first time OLGMC has been named the Best Hospital for Southwestern Louisiana. Ochsner hospitals received more than 30 total accolades from U.S. News in this year's report.

“Our pursuit of excellence goes beyond accolades and recognition. It is deeply rooted in our core values of putting patients first, inclusivity and compassion," said Dr. Amanda Logue, the regional medical director for Ochsner Lafayette General. "These values are the driving force behind every decision we make, every treatment plan we develop, and every interaction we have with our patients and their families. Acadiana and Ochsner Lafayette General are fortunate to be supported by an exceptional team of caregivers, advanced practice providers, and physicians who share a common commitment to our patients' well-being and consistently deliver outstanding care, close to home."

The Ochsner Medical Center - New Orleans was named to the 2023-2024 Best Hospitals list, and has been named the Best Hospital in Louisiana for 12 consecutive years. The Ochsner Hospital for Children was named the state's top hospital for children.
