Ocoee football makes huge jump into Sentinel Super 16 rankings

Impressive outings each of the past two weeks helped Ocoee make a huge leap into this week’s Sentinel Super 16 football rankings.

The Knights came up big on defense in the fourth quarter on Friday to knock off then-No. 9 Wekiva with a 24-20 win. Ocoee, which enters the Super 16 at No. 10, opened the season with a 13-0 lead at top-ranked Apopka on Sept. 17 before falling short in that game 15-13.

Ocoee returns to the field Monday at home against Evans. The Trojans returned to practice on Tuesday after being forced into quarantine due to COVID-19 infections two weeks ago.

Apopka held off No. 5 Dr. Phillips in a 14-7 win last week and maintains a slim hold on the top spot ahead of No. 2 Edgewater, No. 3 Jones and No. 4 Seminole.

Seminole plays at ninth-ranked Lake Minneola this week in a matchup of Super 16 teams. The Hawks moved up two spots in the rankings following a convincinig win at Tohopekaliga.

Edgewater’s game Friday at Wekiva was canceled on Tuesday due to positive COVID-19 test results within its football team.

The Super 16 includes last week’s ranking in parenthesis if different and current win-loss records.
