Oconee Blotter: Teen assaulted in attempted mugging outside Texas Roadhouse

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents:

ATF INQUIRY: On May 16, Deputy Matthew Lariscy met with a 77-year-old Watkinsville man, who reported a Glock 17 pistol is missing from his home. The man explained he purchased the gun about two years ago before he moved to Oconee County. The original owner of the gun received a message from the ATF regarding the gun, so he notified the current owner. The man searched his home and the gun is no longer in his possession. The reason for the ATF’s interest was not disclosed in the report.

HUNGRY SHOPLIFTER: On May 19, Deputy Annessa Glenn met with an employee at the Golden Pantry in Bishop, who reported that a man entered the store then left without paying for some fried chicken and two beers.

FIGHT SEEN: On May 19, Deputy Jonathan Strum was dispatched to the parking lot of the Texas Roadhouse, where a teenager was seen being assaulted by three other juveniles. The deputy located the victim, who said the three tried unsuccessfully to take his money before they fled in a Nissan Altima.

CONVICTED FELON: On May 20, Sgt. Andrew Henderson was parked at Butler’s Crossing about 5 p.m. and could see a man walking around a car parked outside a pharmacy. The deputy found that the car’s tag belonged on another car, so when the man drove away, a traffic stop was made. The driver, a 39-year-old Athens man, was wanted on a felony probation violation warrant out of Madison County and he had a pending warrant out of Clarke County. The man, a convicted felon, had his license suspended in 2021. Some burned foil was found in the car and the man explained it was for using fentanyl. During the arrest, the officer found a Kel-Tec firearm, a credit card reader, blank bank cards, a notebook, debit cards and straws.

MAN ARRESTED: On May 22, Deputy Dylan Pulliam was dispatched to meet with a 29-year-old Walton County woman, who reported that her ex-boyfriend pointed a gun at her outside the plant during a shift change at Caterpillar. The woman said her sister was picking her up at the security gate when the 50-year-old Monroe man began yelling at her, then pointed the gun. Later the man called the sheriff’s office to say the women threatened him. However, the deputy informed him the surveillance video did not support his statement. The man turned himself in to the sheriff’s office the next day.

CLOTHING THEFT: On May 23, Deputy B. Schiffer was dispatched to Carter’s at the Oconee Connector, where an employee reported a man entered the store about 5 p.m. and stole 20 pieces of children’s clothing valued at $298. The same suspect had shoplifted merchandise in the store about a month earlier.
