Oconto County's unemployment rate drops slightly

Oconto County's unemployment rate remains fairly steady, according to July figures released Wednesday by the Department of Workforce Development.

The non-seasonally adjusted data shows Oconto County was at 3.3%, down slightly from 3.4% in June. The county was at 3.5% in July 2021.

The newest rate puts Oconto County slightly below most of the state, ranking 39th out of Wisconsin's 72 counties.

In terms of surrounding counties, Oconto County's July rate was higher than Brown (3.0) and Shawano (3.2), but lower than Langlade (4.0), Marinette (4.3), Forest (5.1) and Menominee (9.1).

Overall in Wisconsin, the July unemployment rates declined or stayed the same in 63 of the 72 counties over the month, and decreased or stayed the same in 70 of 72 counties over the year.

The state's lowest unemployment rates are in Dane and Kewaunee counties, which are each at 2.5%. The highest is in Menominee County.
