October Fun Calendar: 63 cool things do this month in the Beaver Valley & beyond

It's the month of pumpkins, haunted trails and hayrides, plus other unique autumn events.

Here's a handy list of fun things to do in the Beaver Valley and Pittsburgh area this October.

Oct. 1

Vanport Fall Festival, noon to 6 p.m. outside the Vanport Volunteer Fire Department, an annual salute to fall with food, free games, pumpkin painting and pumpkin patch for children, a craft show, guitarist Dave Morgan and Beaver County's The Crows Run Band.

Erntedankfest, a celebration of the fall harvest, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Old Economy Village, Ambridge. Artisans will cook, bake and demonstrate crafts and skills. Music includes James and Debra Tobin. Vendors selling everything from soap to pottery as well as food and drink. oldeconomyvillage.org

The Miniature Railroad & Village, with a new piece, the Evans City chapel and cemetery from "Night of The Living Dead," runs through the end of the year at the Carnegie Science Center, Pittsburgh.
