October sales tax check up more than 30%

Oct. 13—The City of Odessa announced on Thursday that it received its October sales tax check, in the amount of, $5,721,617.33.

This amount includes the Economic Development sales tax of 1/4 cent. The City of Odessa will receive $4,577,293,86 and the Odessa Development Corporation will receive $1,144,323.47.

The city saw an increase in sales tax revenue with October's sales tax revenue total of $4,577,293.86 which reflects a $1,089,892.89, or 31.25% as compared to October 2021.

The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2022-23 is up 44.66%, or $1,413,047.88 as compared to budgeted amount expected at this point in the fiscal year.

In addition, the 2022-23 year-to-date amount is above the previous fiscal year-to-date amount by $1,089,892.89 or 31.25%.

The city has budgeted $44,000,000.00 in net sales tax revenues for this current fiscal year.

Medical Center Health System this month collected $4,629,856. That amount is about a $1.2 million increase from the same time period last year.

Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax revenue from two months prior to collection, i.e., October's collection is based on August sales.
