The Old Dominion Athletic Conference and Capital Athletic Conference on Tuesday announced the postponement of all league fall and winter competition and championships until after the end of 2020.
Virginia Wesleyan competes in the ODAC, while Christopher Newport is a CAC member.
Both conferences left open the possibility of athletics in the fall, but neither will conduct conference competition or championships until after Dec. 31, 2020.
The ODAC intends to “sponsor conference competition for fall and winter sports in the spring semester,” the league said in a release.
In a Q&A on the ODAC web site, the league said member institutions would be permitted “to allow for athletic experiences within the parameters of federal, state, institutional, conference, and NCAA guidance. In the meantime, we plan for teams to be able to practice and gather this fall under the supervision of their coaches and athletics department.”
The CAC in a release said it “supports individual institutions if they are able to safely schedule competition within their own regional areas, while relying on local and state guidance. The CAC will also explore in the coming months shifting fall sports to the spring.”
