Odd surprise in this home for sale would ‘be a nightmare’ for folks with kids. See why

A pleasant looking, “cape-style” home in Hampden, Massachusetts, for $299,900 is turning heads on a popular social media real estate page and it’s not because of its breezy exterior.

It’s because there’s a surprise above the living room that fails to make an appearance in the listing — a pipe organ.

Yes, a pipe organ that looks like it was dropped there randomly by the Phantom of the Opera. The organ makes an entrance in the photos of the 2,325-square-foot home.

Of course, the out-of-place church instrument is just one of the residence’s many features including:

  • Large rooms

  • Vaulted ceiling

  • Fireplace

  • Hardwood floors

  • Eat-in kitchen

  • Custom patio

All anyone could talk about on Zillow Gone Wild — a Facebook page and X account that showcases unique houses on the market — is the organ that appears to come out of nowhere.

“Holy Halloween town I need this house!” one person excitedly said in the comment section on Facebook.

“Ok this one is definitely interesting,” another noted.

“I am more impressed by the organ!” someone said.

This home is haunted by marionettes,” someone tweeted on X.

In other words, they really put the ‘mass’ in Massachusetts,” another joked.

Living here would be a nightmare with kids because they’d think it was hilarious to wake you up by banging on the organ keys,” one person said.

The home’s listing agent, Kathy Grudgen, told McClatchy News that the house is under contract and is closing in mid-September.

Hampden is about 85 miles southwest of Boston.
