Odessan arrested in fatal crash

May 26—A 24-year-old Odessa man was arrested Tuesday on warrants charging him with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault in connection with a fatal February crash.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety records, Alan Valenzuela was driving east on FM 2020 in a GMC Acadia on February 6 when he failed to control his speed and his vehicle hit a Honda CR-V around 2:20 a.m. near North Skylark Avenue.

Valenzuela then traveled across the center median into the westbound lanes and hit a Chevrolet Tahoe head-on. Another GMC Acadia then hit the rear of Valenzuela's vehicle, the report stated.

A passenger in the Honda, Amairany Flores, died and the driver of the Chevy Tahoe suffered serious bodily injuries as did Valenzuela, according to the report. Both were taken to Medical Center Hospital.

According to the report, blood tests showed Valenzuela had a blood alcohol level of 0.214; someone with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 is considered legally intoxicated in Texas.

Valenzuela was released from the Ector County jail the same day of his arrest after posting two surety bonds totaling $75,000.
